Walking the trail:
- Summary: A fantastic 109 mile circular long distance trail traversing the rural Dingle peninsula. Rich landscapes, beautiful coastline and mountain passes with a good mix of archaeological and cultural heritage. Can be walked as one single adventure or broken down into single day walks. Either way its a great place for adventure!
The Dingle Way is a circular 109 mile long distance walk located in South West Ireland (County Kerry) on the obviously named Dingle Peninsula.
The trail winds through some spectacular and diverse landscapes from huge golden beaches, mountain passes and rugged dramatic coastline, as well as providing many sites of historic and archaeological significance.
Starting from the town of Tralee and finished in Tralee.
The beauty of this trail is you can attempt in one long adventure or break it down into sections depending on your timescale. Either way its just a great place to explore. Its quite rural and because some road networks are pretty narrow you wont get the tourist bus trips that can make, for example, the neighbourly peninsula of Kerry quite busy. Out of all the south west peninsulas I visited on my trip Dingle was definitely my favourite of the bunch.
The highlight of the Dingle Peninsula is easily the south western coastal area around Dunmore head looking across to Great Blasket Island. That whole western side including Smerwick Harbour and the three sisters cliffs are amazing.
