Walking the trail:

  • Summary: Enjoy a forest walk in the heart of Ross-Shire Scotland. See the impressive waterfalls of Rogie Falls, miles of forest paths and soaring Red Kites in the sky. Autumn is the best time to visit for vibrant colours.

Rogie Falls is an impressive set of waterfalls along the Blackwater River in Ross-shire.

A rather dramatic suspension bridge crosses the river right in front of the falls. The bridge has a limited capacity for people so it can get quite busy being a hot spot tourist destination.

Salmon spotting can be observed early autumn season.

Its well worth treating the falls as a quick visit in a large hike around the large forest surrounding the river which can take up many miles of quiet forest walking. Most tourists wont go farther than the falls and bridge itself so well worth exploring.

Visiting during autumn is very well advised, the golden browns and reds around the forest and waterfalls are superb. You might even ctah a red squirrel or Red Kite high above the treeline looking for its lunch!

Parking is free from IV14 9EQ along the A835 near the village of Contin.
